Tokio treatment: the Japanese method for stronger, more supple hair

Shine, softness, suppleness, strength, and resistance... Thanks to its cutting-edge technology, Tokio treatment has established itself as the go-to solution for deep hair repair. Here's how it works.

Hair that frizzes as soon as humidity hits and remains dull despite all the care you give it… If your mane is giving you a hard time and is also subjected to chemical coloring or frequent styling, it is probably exhausted. To put an end to unruly and damaged lengths, the Tokio Inkarami treatment, straight from Japan, is the most effective solution. Technology, benefits, and detailed protocol... Here's everything you need to know with Jessica Lesioux, the brand's training manager.

”Hair that is 140% more resistant"

Created in Japan by the brand Dr Jr., the Tokio treatment was developed in collaboration with Japanese hairdressers nearly 30 years ago to address the problems of fragile hair, namely damage caused by chemicals or daily aggressions. Its strength? “It treats damaged hair by penetrating the microfibrils of the hair fiber, making it 140% stronger than before,” explains Jessica Lesioux.

A promise that is based on advanced technology: “The key ingredients are six types of keratin which, thanks to their different sizes and molecular weights, penetrate deep into the hair cortex,” explains the expert. Added to this is fullerene, a patented ingredient that won the Nobel Prize in Chemistry, which allows the keratin in the treatment to fuse with the hair's keratin to fill in gaps and strengthen the hair structure.

A 5-step hair care routine for complete repair

The Tokio Inkarami treatment is based on a precise protocol structured around the principle of layering, which involves overlaying active ingredients to optimize their effectiveness. We start with a pre-shampoo to detoxify and prepare the fiber. “This product acts like a sponge, absorbing oil, styling product, and sebum residues that could act as a barrier to the treatments.” Next, a treatment shampoo already enriched with keratin and fullerene.

Then comes the first infusion of fullerene and keratin: during this step, a first solution is sprayed onto the hair. This is when the effect of fullerene begins to be noticeable. The second step involves applying a cream to the hair. The trick here? “A tapping motion is performed on each strand to create a physical reaction through vibration, which triggers the ‘Inkarami’ reaction (in for interior and Karami for fusion).” A 10-minute pause under humid heat allows the hair's natural moisture to be restored.

Without rinsing out the previously applied products, we move on to the third step, which consists of applying a new solution to the hair fiber. This time, “rolling your thumbs over each strand will break down the keratin molecules and push them deep into the cuticle.

Finally, rinse and shampoo to close the cuticles and lock in the active ingredients. “We detangle, rinse and apply Outkarami serum, which protects against UV rays and heat and has powerful antioxidant properties.” The final result is nourished, strengthened and shiny hair.

Tokio Limited treatment: an even more powerful version

For those with even more damaged hair, the brand has recently launched a more advanced version of its treatment: Tokio Limited. While the traditional treatment focuses on keratin in the form of proteins, this new protocol uses oils that have “a better affinity with the hair fiber,” says the pro.

Additional active ingredients include collagen oil, vegetable lanolin, and lamellar crystal oil. These new components work on three essential aspects of hair repair: rebuilding disulfide bonds, replenishing keratin, and completely repairing the cuticle layers, of which there are 10 in Tokio Limited, compared to 6 in the classic version. This treatment is therefore ideal for ultra-sensitive or damaged hair.

Please note: Tokio Limited is only available at select locations, starting with the David Lucas hair salon at the Hôtel de Crillon. You can enjoy this cutting-edge technology in an exceptional setting at the celebrity favorite hair stylist's salon. As an added bonus, it also offers a complete relaxation experience with the head spa, a relaxing ritual that will take care of your scalp while relieving tension and stiffness that may have built up in the upper body. A moment of absolute relaxation, followed by the application of the Tokio Limited protocol, for a true 2-in-1 treatment combining beauty and wellness.
