This inexpensive accessory will upgrade any of your looks

In the family of inexpensive accessories that add quality to any look, we're talking about ties! To satisfy this new fashion obsession, Oniriq unveils its selection of affordable and luxurious ties to add to your wardrobe without delay.

We used to mock it. Long considered a pompous part of Sunday best, the tie is undergoing a complete makeover. Any fashionista will tell you: it's the new fashion obsession of the moment. So to keep up with the trends, OniriQ brings you its favourite ties: from affordable to luxury, to give your looks the studious touch you desire.

The history of the tie, from yesterday to today

Some believe it to be French, like the lavallière, descended from the intellectualism of the tricolour flag. But in reality, the tie comes from the Austro-Hungarian world of the time. In the 17th century, Croatian mercenaries, nicknamed ‘cravates’, wore a scarf tied around their necks as both a distinctive sign and protection against the cold.

When they arrived in France to serve Louis XIII, they quickly lost their monopoly on wearing the scarf, which was stolen by the French elite. Very quickly, the military accessory became a symbol of elegance and refinement at court, inspiring Louise de La Vallière a few decades later with her flying version.

In the 19th century, the tie became formalised with the creation of the modern men's suit. Gentlemen wore it proudly, while ladies wore lace, ribbons and fabrics around their necks in imitation. Later, in the 1920s, the textile industry produced the first straight-cut models, and in the following decades it became an accessory of identity. Conservative for older generations and rebellious for younger ones, notably with the red power tie of the 1980s, the tie has undergone many changes in our wardrobes to this day.

In recent years, it must be said, few people wore them outside the office. ‘Old-fashioned’, ‘too vintage’, ‘too corporate’... The tie was no longer in vogue. Now, it is leaving its 100% professional functions behind to take to the catwalks, the streets and become part of current fashion trends.

From autumn-winter to spring-summer

In recent months, the tie seems to have regained its prestige. From Paris to Milan, via London and New York, many designers are flirting with office wear with this formal accessory. The autumn-winter 2025-2026 collections feature some big names: Amiri with its feminine yet corporate debut, Ferrari with its fur suits and ties, Louis Vuitton with its collaboration between Pharrell Williams and Nigo, and Paul Smith with its British prints.

In spring-summer, shirts and their faithful ties will also be in vogue. The signature item will therefore be back with us when the warm weather returns, much to our delight. In different wardrobes, it can still be worn in a thousand different ways: 3. Paradis makes the tie ultra-colourful with pink or orange, Boss wears it on either side of the collar without tying it, Dior, under the impetus of Jonathan Anderson, makes it rebellious, sometimes upside down, sometimes wrapped in an unusual knot, and so on.

OniriQ's selection of ties

As our title suggests, this accessory will transform your look. And you don't necessarily have to break the bank to do so. To make your tie addiction shopping spree easier, OniriQ has selected its current favourite ties: some for those on a budget, others for those who love beautiful pieces...

First of all, among the low-priced models, we offer our two favourites for less than €20: the navy blue tie with its university-style logo from Asos Design and a more officecore striped tie from Bershka. Slightly more expensive, but still well worth the investment, are the tricolour silk version from the Lyon-based brand Bexley and the dark red tie from Hugo Boss. Finally, before moving on to its luxury counterparts, we suggest the ecru tie from The Frankie Shop for less than £100.

BERSHKA striped tie – €15.99

For those who see the tie as a direct extension of their look, you might be tempted to invest in it as much as you would in a jacket or shirt... To this end, our beloved fashion houses are responding to the call by offering dozens and dozens of designs, each exploring the codes of their own label in their own way through this piece of fabric.

Our absolute favourite? Definitely the Intrecciato lambskin leather braided tie by Bottega Veneta, the result of its unique Italian expertise. In a different style, Louis Vuitton goes preppy with a studious green striped model (which would look just as good at Harvard as it would at Hogwarts over a Slytherin shirt).

Still on the theme of stripes, Ralph Lauren ventures into an attractive yellow and blue duo, while Dior plays it safe with its Dior Club tie in navy blue, red and white stripes. To round off this selection, who better than Vivienne Westwood, reinterpreting tartan in a trendy red-pink with a few iterations of her famous Orb (a logo combining the British royal globe and Saturn's ring).
