The year has barely begun and brands are already back in the endless race for campaigns and collections. Among this multitude of offerings, Burberry stands out with a capsule collection steeped in history, celebrating gabardine. A cornerstone of its wardrobe, the fabric has been protecting silhouettes since 1879 and has become second skin.
A capsule collection that makes sense...
This is an innovation dear to Burberry. In 1879, with the company operating at full capacity since 1856, founder Thomas Burberry undertook an unprecedented technical revolution by creating gabardine. At the time, this fabric was innovative due to its extremely tightly woven wool composition, which gave it unrivalled resistance and waterproofing properties.
With the arrival of 2026, Burberry is treating itself to a little extravagance: celebrating 170 years since its founding with a capsule collection focused on its cornerstone fabric, gabardine. The anniversary collection ranges from pieces made entirely from the water-repellent fabric to other designs embellished with gabardine details. It also includes ‘a selection of knitwear and complementary layering pieces in soft cotton jersey,’ according to a statement from the brand.
Around this founding material, Burberry draws on its outerwear wardrobe while updating it. Parkas, quilted jackets, Harringtons and bomber jackets are reimagined in brushed cotton nylon gabardine in a natural colour palette. Between ‘hamper’ beige and juniper green, the silhouettes interact with the landscape and the elements, as the campaign beautifully demonstrates.

Meanwhile, the cosier wardrobe features pieces designed, as specified, for warm and comforting layering: thick ribbed cashmere wool knits, cotton blend hoodies and T-shirts are slipped under the heavier pieces. In total, there are less than fifteen exclusive designs to style with other timeless Burberry pieces, which can be found on the brand's website.
In the details of Burberry
Beyond the designated pieces, Burberry takes its attention to detail a step further by incorporating a label specially created for the capsule collection. Inspired by a 1993 archive campaign, it features a ‘Burberrys grew out of country life’ stitching, which can be found inside coats and jackets as well as on jersey pieces and intarsia knit jumpers.
To accompany the collection and mark its anniversary once again, Burberry embodies its heritage in a series of vintage-style short films. On its home turf in Snowdonia, Wales, the brand brings its new Gabardine capsule collection to life. The cast of explorers includes Connaire Cann, Jesse Grylls and Marlon Patrice alongside models Iris Lasnet and Zhuó Chen. It's yet another celebration of the beauty of timeless British fashion.
The Burberry Gabardine capsule collection has been available since 7 January on its website and in stores.
